House & Family History
At Scone, Kenneth MacAlpine unified Scotland. The Stone of Scone was laid by Kenneth MacAlpine on Moot Hill in 838 AD., thereafter the Crowning Place of Scotland’s monarchy. Scottish kings crowned at Scone include Macbeth and Robert the Bruce. The House was home to the Stone of Destiny on the Moothill until the Stone was siezed by King Edward I in 1296 and taken from Scone Abbey to Westminster Abbey. In 1996 the Stone was restored to the people of Scotland when the British Government moved it to Edinburgh Castle. In 1600 the estate passed to the Murray family, who still make Scone their seat.
