The House was originally a 15th century manor house. The East Wing was restored after a fire in November 1992. Athelhampton was the home of Francis Inigo Thomas, the noted 20th century garden designer. Thomas laid out the gardens of Athelhampton, the design of much of which can be seen today (2007).
