Craigievar is an L-shaped house tower house of 7 stories with superb 16th century plasterwork. The house remained in the Forbes family from the 17th century, when it was built, until 1963, when it came into the ownership of The National Trust for Scotland. Queens Victoria, Mary (wife of George V), and the late Queen Mother (wife of George VI) visited Craigievar.
